Team: Ohio State Buckeyes
School: Ohio State University
Conference: Big 10
Location: Columbus, Ohio
Stadium: Ohio Stadium or The Shoe
Team Colors: Scarlet and Gray
Mascot: Brutus the Buckeye
Current Ranking: AP Preseason (2), USA Today Preseason (3), BCS (N/A)

The Hype

Making it to the big dance two seasons in a row, and subsequently losing both games, essentially the same team from the past two BCS National Championship appearances are returning for what many expect in yet another BCS National Championship run.

Ohio State successfully recruited the much anticipated #1 High School recruit, and many expect him to play a part in this season in a similar role that Tim Tebow played in his freshman year along with Chris Leak for the Florida Gators. Also, there is more bad news for Michigan fans with Jim Tressel receiving a contract extension and pay increase. Jim Tressel is under contract with the Buckeyes until the 2013 season.

To go along with amazing new talent, the Buckeyes return last years star talent which breaks Buckeye and Tressel tradition in sending Junior’s to the NFL if they can go high in the NFL Draft. Players like James Larunitis, all but guaranteed a first round draft spot is returning to head up the linebacker corps and defense. In prior seasons he has become known for being in on every defensive play in some fashion or another. Expect nothing different this year, as he heads up the defense.

The Players

It’s hard looking at teams anymore to find just one or two players that are great and stand out above the rest. College Football is a team sport, and the team has to be good to win games. In this case the Buckeyes team is good and it has some great players on it.

Chris “Beanie” Wells has come out and stated that he didn’t play as best he could have at the first quarter of the season, and has had his sights on changing that this year. Expect him to be a legit contender for the Heisman. After all, it’d be ironic if a Buckeye is who prevented Tebow from joining the only player in history to win two Heisman Trophies in their college career — another Buckeye in Archie Griffin.

Ohio State has been a little odd the past couple of seasons with matching named tandems. Like Chris Wells and Mo Wells, this season Brian Hartline and Brian Robiskie look forward to showing some highlite reel catching ability, and will help out Todd Boekman by giving him easy targets, even in tough situations.

The Projection

I project Ohio State to realistically go 11-1, to 12-0. I think they have too much depth, too much starter skill and the coaching of the entire team, from Tressel to others, it is just too hard for these players to not go out and win games. Expect them to be in the BCS National Championship game or at least give a strong run for it, even if they lose to USC early on.

The Game

You normally always have to side with the rivalry game, but keeping with a newer tradition in the Buckeyes schedule, they line up an early preseason favorite early on in the season — this season is no different with USC being the game.

Will The Ohio State Buckeyes Win the BCS National Championship?

Super Powers.

Everybody has one they would take if given the chance. It’s much in the same vein as the ancient three wishes question; every one asked will produce an answer if given a little time. These are indeed questions innate in all people, lending insight deep into one’s personality even if they responder doesn’t realize it. It exposes our core desires - things we yearn for but find unobtainable by regular means.

One of the most popular answers, I’ve found, is flight. Many researchers have lent that response to feeling caged up, stressed out, and bound by inane obligations. The desire of flight is largely an escape from that, the ability to be free and silly. Another popular pick is invisibility, which by large seems to be wanted as an escape mechanism; sometimes as a means of criminal activity, but most often as desire to be forgotten, or even for voyeurism.
Nearly every answer has taproots embedded within the personality, though sometimes with a margin of error. Some who desire flight may simply want to be free of traffic, or of paying for plane tickets. Those wishing for super strength may purely find throwing boulders entertaining, rather than longing for it in compensation. There’s a myriad of conclusions that may be drawn for every superpower, so..

What superpower would you choose? Think carefully of what it says about you.

Opinions: Ex-Partners.

This is a very old question, and has had many different responses. It is one of those questions that can’t be summed up by a general answer that everyone can use, because everyone has different feelings, emotions, etc.

Ex-Boyfriends/Girlfriends: Should you allow your partner to stay in contact with them?

Well, let’s explore this a little, shall we? My personal views vary on this. I think that if the guy was nice, didn’t treat her like shit, and sincerely just wants to be a legit friend and obviously nothing more, why not? If he is a douchebag, was abusive and has absolutely no common sense or moral values, let alone a brain.. Hell no.

Then you get into the gray area that sparks all of the fights. You know, the whole “do you have the right to tell your partner who they can or can’t talk to” thing. The thing that gets the classic response “who are you to try and control me” and “you aren’t my father” bullshit. My opinion on this again is varied, but centers are something fairly clear cut: If you think that it will cause possible harm to the relationship, you have the right to put your foot down and lay down an ultimatum that tells your partner you can’t have any sort of contact with a person. And no double-standards, that is just stupid and will leave you open for all sorts of bullshit and fights.

There are certain people who when they get brought up my gut just twists, turns and I have to bite my tongue as to not start spouting off all sorts of shit that’ll likely turn into a fight. Guys who quite honestly, I would love nothing more than to beat the shit out of them and show them how much of a pussy they really are; especially for the stupidity they’ve shown in the past towards my wife.

My wife at times even says to me that she misses the old Brian, the Brian who would just go off the handle and would destroy people when they’d mess with me or those I gave a damn about. I’ve mellowed out a bit over the past couple of years, and I’m not much up for beating ass like I used to. I’ve settled down. I’m a married man and a father of two. I don’t need to be putting someone in a hospital, and at my age by doing so won’t result in a 30-day stay in jail, or whatever. Now we’re talking years. Felony bullshit, etc.

I try to act like an adult about these situations, but sometimes you really just want to unload on some assholes/bitches, and in a smaller amount unload on your partner for even risking such contact in the first place knowing that it could cause issues like this. Either way, it happens and it sadly happens a lot. Where did the human races common sense go? When did people up and decide to stop caring about those they’re supposed to care about, and stop thinking of others and only think about themselves in these situations?

By no means am I innocent, and have talked to my ex’s to some degree under friendly terms. I in a way grew up with one and felt the need to stay in contact; though I’m no longer in contact with the ex, or any of them for that matter. I’ve moved on and as I said, settled down with my wife and kids. I want my cute little house, green grass, pool and a white picket fence surrounding it all. I wouldn’t mind a novelty mailbox to stick out front, or a swing in the back. Maybe even build a clubhouse in the backyard for the kids to play in.

Just how things are, but should they be?

Should You have the right to tell your partner who they can and can't talk to?

CFB: It’s Here!

It’s finally here!! Tonight, the College Football season kicks off, and one of the greatest sports out there will finally be back. It’s a special time of year where the smell of the air changes, the atmosphere with the people around you becomes different, everyone has an extra bounce in their step and odds are you’ll either be wearing your team colors in the next 4 days, or you’ll know someone who will.

While you’d think that the love and passion for college football is limited only to the states since it is based here, you’d be surprised at how beloved the sport is internationally. Asian countries like Japan root strongly for Pac 10 teams such as USC. There is even an anime that features a character wearing a Texas Longhorn shirt. Showing pride much? I look forward to this season, both as a fan, and an analyst.

Opinions: Mixing and Matching with the Media.

Category: OpinionsBrian @ 1:59 pm

Why is it that in the media they seem to try and mix and match races? Typically you’ll see the black announcers on one side and white announcers on the other. Or they’ll go and go black, white, black and white. It is rarely more black announcers than white, and when it is, they’ll try to make some sort of color pattern. Why?

I’ve been seeing a lot of this lately, and it has bugged the hell out of me. To me, when I see it, it’s like the media is trying to show a divide between whites and blacks and emphasize the divisions. What? Is a white announcer too good to sit and talk to a group of black announcers and the other way around? Why does that have to be so stressed?

I think it’s stupid. Let them sit in whatever order the announcers feel most comfortable in, and don’t have them play musical chairs between shows just so everyone looks right. The shows I’m talking about range from basic news shows to sports shows/events. It takes away from the show, which is what I’m looking to watch in the first place. What do you think?

Do you think it's time the media stops emphasizing racial barriers with silly things like seating arrangements?

NASCAR: Naughty, naughty.

Kyle Busch’s recent tantrum and display of showing his complete lack of concern for others physical well being in response to typical NASCAR racing on Carl Edwards end which brought Edwards and win and Busch a 2nd place finish; it has brought both parties a 6-week probation.

I’m all for some good, rough racing. I don’t mind a couple wrecks here and there, and to most those wrecks are the biggest draw for NASCAR. I still have Richard Petty’s infield flip stuck in my head, even remember staring at the images in a magazine one day after school. Amazing, absolutely amazing. But, where do you draw the line?

This isn’t Busch’s first time he has had some action in which he was involved with another driver before or after a race. Earlier this season even, he was involved in a highly publicized incident with Tony Stewart which resulted in a similar situation. While this year Kyle Busch is almost unbeatable behind the wheel, and he has collected quite an impressive list of wins.. Where do you draw the line and suspend him for a race or more — end his season early?

When should NASCAR say "enough is enough" with Kyle Busch?

Too good to play?

Before heading to bed last night, I saw this story about this 9-year-old boy who has been banned from pitching in his little league because he is too good. The problem is that he is playing with other 9 and 10-year-olds, and he is throwing 40mph pitches. He has the skills of a 11 and 12-year-old, and has shown amazing control — not once beaning anyone.

The league is saying it is a safety issue, when it has been said to be more of a political issue. He was asked to play originally for the defending champions team, and an administrator for the league has ties to the defending champions. Because the little boy decided to go play for a different team, he is unable to play all of a sudden when his team was making a run for the playoffs.

Taking it a step further, the team has been disbanded, and the coach has announced that he has resigned. The other kids have been penalized because he was too good. What the hell is wrong with this? So, what do you think?

9-year-old is too good to play baseball: What do you think?
