Opinions: Political Parents.

What is the big deal with political figures being parents? The republican VP candidate, Sarah Palin, is a mother. Big shocker, right? Yeah. Wow. Amazing. What does it matter? Who cares how many kids she has? Who cares what her kids do? Who cares about her childrens personal lives? What business is it of ours to know?

I’m tired of seeing all the reports about her kids. I’m tired of seeing private information about her family all over the place. The fact she is a mother is a plus to me, but I don’t want to hear every little private detail about her kids! Respect her families privacy. How’d you like it if you had kids, and private information about them got posted up all over the world? That’d piss you right the hell off, wouldn’t it? I know I’d be pissed, and have gotten pissed for less when it comes to my children.

I’m to the point where I doubt I’m voting for anyone. I’m growing more and more concerned with Obama, and I’m against McCain entirely. There are no candidates that represent me and my views enough to earn my vote. I really wish we could choose our president, instead of some tightwads picking whoever they want to put out in front of us and let us get the pick of the litter. This time we’ve got the runts of the parties. Nobody wants to cleanup Bush’s mess, so we’re stuck with these scapegoats. Anywho, that is for another post.

:durr:
Oh noez, the VP candidate is a parent!!1! End of the worlds I seyz!

Opinions: Only the Good Die Young.

Category: Opinions, SportsBrian @ 1:11 pm

While it may not be THAT bad, it is essentially how things are in the world of professional sports this day and age. That, I think is what this season in the NFL is representing, and is showing to every young kid out there. You think you’re good? You think you’re great? You want to play for us? Come on and join us, but as soon as you get hurt, you can get the hell out.

Careers in professional sports are growing shorter than ever, with those “Franchise QB’s” becoming more and more of a distant memory, teams ask — no — DEMAND 110% of you at all times, even if you’re hurt to the point it could end your playing career. What does it matter to them? They’ll find someone else, and you’re just another number on a jersey.

Players are being sold on the “take one for the team” notion, yet the very teams preaching such lies of loyalty they’re making plans in the front offices on who they could possibly acquire for your inevitable injury. The teams will use and abuse players. So what if they’re making millions a year? That is nice, but what happens when you get an injury and you’re barely able to walk for the rest of your life? What if you can’t walk at all? What if you risk severe brain damage? It’s the risks everyone accepts when they walk out on that field, yes. But what makes it right when teams will easily replace you with someone else and move on while continuing to preach the team mantra bullshit?

This year, everyone saw the great Brett Favre fumble. The Packers moved on, and abandoned the last true Franchise QB outside of Tom Brady and the Manning brothers. He gave every meaningful year of his professional career to Green Bay, and they dropped him. Who cares if he comes back from “retirement” and has a change of heart? He gave you everything he had and more for years, and the least a team could do is return the favor, welcome him back and give him a warm reception. Big marketing opportunity fumbled by the Packers there.

Now I’m not going to praise Daunte Culpepper as some amazing player. But that was bullshit. The dude got hurt, and everyone in the league is bailing on him, and refusing to give him a legit shot to show he has what it takes to still compete. While he could’ve and should’ve accepted his backup offers from the Steelers or Packers, he should’ve at least had more offers than that. What about Atlanta? At the very least he could help out Matt Ryan, or maybe the Ravens and help out Troy Smith, Boller, and Flacco. A full squad, yes, but a squad that could use at least a little experience to help them out. The man is 31, and is retiring because he feels he can’t find work. Can he still play? Yes. Is he allowed to play? No. That is a failure on the NFL’s end as a whole.

Truth be told, I’m not much of an NFL guy. I don’t like watching sports where the players make millions for doing something I’d love to do just for shits and giggles. At the college level, players play for recognition by the NFL and other leagues, as well as play for a college education. In some cases, not even that as the school hits their scholarship limit. Then they’re playing for the love of the game and a true love of the team. In baseball, I’m a Marlins fan. They are damn poor, but each year prove that the low salary is meaningless and give teams in the NL East hell all season long.

Back to the topic… I just think it’s bullshit that it is so acceptable to throw someone under the bus because they got injured doing their job and because they might not be as good as they once were after the injury, or because someone is a human being who gets a little older each year, the teams in a team sport kick them to the curb and move on. It’s a shame so many are giving up their careers and the ability to be comfortable in life after they’re done playing the game under a false impression that the team is about loyalty when it is a one-way street.

:gah:
Couldn’t accept it.

Opinions: Appealing the Injustice.

Yesterday I submitted an appeal form, and informed Google AdSense that I have no control over who clicks my ads and how many times someone clicks. I also enlightened them to the fact that ads are meant to be clicked. I also noted that SHiNTER.NET has a growing fanbase of users located in Gainesville, FL for multiple reasons, from the college football coverage to the recent coverage of Fay.

I’ve not done anything to warrant them getting anal with me, and at this point in time I really feel they’re just pissy because I was likely going to have an amount worthy of payment accumulated in such a short amount of time, and that they see more of the same in the future from SHiNTER.NET, and to save a few bucks, they’re withholding revenue generated by us and effectively stealing income from us.

I’ve already decided to chronicle the issues with Google AdSense in hopes of warning others who think they’re a worthwhile option for ads, and to inform them they’re likely going to get scammed into listing their ads, and then before payment they’ll suddenly come up with something that you’ve done wrong and take away your earnings. Bah, what a joke.

Super Powers.

Everybody has one they would take if given the chance. It’s much in the same vein as the ancient three wishes question; every one asked will produce an answer if given a little time. These are indeed questions innate in all people, lending insight deep into one’s personality even if they responder doesn’t realize it. It exposes our core desires - things we yearn for but find unobtainable by regular means.

One of the most popular answers, I’ve found, is flight. Many researchers have lent that response to feeling caged up, stressed out, and bound by inane obligations. The desire of flight is largely an escape from that, the ability to be free and silly. Another popular pick is invisibility, which by large seems to be wanted as an escape mechanism; sometimes as a means of criminal activity, but most often as desire to be forgotten, or even for voyeurism.
Nearly every answer has taproots embedded within the personality, though sometimes with a margin of error. Some who desire flight may simply want to be free of traffic, or of paying for plane tickets. Those wishing for super strength may purely find throwing boulders entertaining, rather than longing for it in compensation. There’s a myriad of conclusions that may be drawn for every superpower, so..

What superpower would you choose? Think carefully of what it says about you.

Opinions: Ex-Partners.

This is a very old question, and has had many different responses. It is one of those questions that can’t be summed up by a general answer that everyone can use, because everyone has different feelings, emotions, etc.

Ex-Boyfriends/Girlfriends: Should you allow your partner to stay in contact with them?

Well, let’s explore this a little, shall we? My personal views vary on this. I think that if the guy was nice, didn’t treat her like shit, and sincerely just wants to be a legit friend and obviously nothing more, why not? If he is a douchebag, was abusive and has absolutely no common sense or moral values, let alone a brain.. Hell no.

Then you get into the gray area that sparks all of the fights. You know, the whole “do you have the right to tell your partner who they can or can’t talk to” thing. The thing that gets the classic response “who are you to try and control me” and “you aren’t my father” bullshit. My opinion on this again is varied, but centers are something fairly clear cut: If you think that it will cause possible harm to the relationship, you have the right to put your foot down and lay down an ultimatum that tells your partner you can’t have any sort of contact with a person. And no double-standards, that is just stupid and will leave you open for all sorts of bullshit and fights.

There are certain people who when they get brought up my gut just twists, turns and I have to bite my tongue as to not start spouting off all sorts of shit that’ll likely turn into a fight. Guys who quite honestly, I would love nothing more than to beat the shit out of them and show them how much of a pussy they really are; especially for the stupidity they’ve shown in the past towards my wife.

My wife at times even says to me that she misses the old Brian, the Brian who would just go off the handle and would destroy people when they’d mess with me or those I gave a damn about. I’ve mellowed out a bit over the past couple of years, and I’m not much up for beating ass like I used to. I’ve settled down. I’m a married man and a father of two. I don’t need to be putting someone in a hospital, and at my age by doing so won’t result in a 30-day stay in jail, or whatever. Now we’re talking years. Felony bullshit, etc.

I try to act like an adult about these situations, but sometimes you really just want to unload on some assholes/bitches, and in a smaller amount unload on your partner for even risking such contact in the first place knowing that it could cause issues like this. Either way, it happens and it sadly happens a lot. Where did the human races common sense go? When did people up and decide to stop caring about those they’re supposed to care about, and stop thinking of others and only think about themselves in these situations?

By no means am I innocent, and have talked to my ex’s to some degree under friendly terms. I in a way grew up with one and felt the need to stay in contact; though I’m no longer in contact with the ex, or any of them for that matter. I’ve moved on and as I said, settled down with my wife and kids. I want my cute little house, green grass, pool and a white picket fence surrounding it all. I wouldn’t mind a novelty mailbox to stick out front, or a swing in the back. Maybe even build a clubhouse in the backyard for the kids to play in.

Just how things are, but should they be?

Should You have the right to tell your partner who they can and can't talk to?

Opinions: Mixing and Matching with the Media.

Category: OpinionsBrian @ 1:59 pm

Why is it that in the media they seem to try and mix and match races? Typically you’ll see the black announcers on one side and white announcers on the other. Or they’ll go and go black, white, black and white. It is rarely more black announcers than white, and when it is, they’ll try to make some sort of color pattern. Why?

I’ve been seeing a lot of this lately, and it has bugged the hell out of me. To me, when I see it, it’s like the media is trying to show a divide between whites and blacks and emphasize the divisions. What? Is a white announcer too good to sit and talk to a group of black announcers and the other way around? Why does that have to be so stressed?

I think it’s stupid. Let them sit in whatever order the announcers feel most comfortable in, and don’t have them play musical chairs between shows just so everyone looks right. The shows I’m talking about range from basic news shows to sports shows/events. It takes away from the show, which is what I’m looking to watch in the first place. What do you think?

Do you think it's time the media stops emphasizing racial barriers with silly things like seating arrangements?

NASCAR: Naughty, naughty.

Kyle Busch’s recent tantrum and display of showing his complete lack of concern for others physical well being in response to typical NASCAR racing on Carl Edwards end which brought Edwards and win and Busch a 2nd place finish; it has brought both parties a 6-week probation.

I’m all for some good, rough racing. I don’t mind a couple wrecks here and there, and to most those wrecks are the biggest draw for NASCAR. I still have Richard Petty’s infield flip stuck in my head, even remember staring at the images in a magazine one day after school. Amazing, absolutely amazing. But, where do you draw the line?

This isn’t Busch’s first time he has had some action in which he was involved with another driver before or after a race. Earlier this season even, he was involved in a highly publicized incident with Tony Stewart which resulted in a similar situation. While this year Kyle Busch is almost unbeatable behind the wheel, and he has collected quite an impressive list of wins.. Where do you draw the line and suspend him for a race or more — end his season early?

When should NASCAR say "enough is enough" with Kyle Busch?

Too good to play?

Before heading to bed last night, I saw this story about this 9-year-old boy who has been banned from pitching in his little league because he is too good. The problem is that he is playing with other 9 and 10-year-olds, and he is throwing 40mph pitches. He has the skills of a 11 and 12-year-old, and has shown amazing control — not once beaning anyone.

The league is saying it is a safety issue, when it has been said to be more of a political issue. He was asked to play originally for the defending champions team, and an administrator for the league has ties to the defending champions. Because the little boy decided to go play for a different team, he is unable to play all of a sudden when his team was making a run for the playoffs.

Taking it a step further, the team has been disbanded, and the coach has announced that he has resigned. The other kids have been penalized because he was too good. What the hell is wrong with this? So, what do you think?

9-year-old is too good to play baseball: What do you think?

CFB: A New Rivalry.

Category: Opinions, SportsBrian @ 5:22 pm
1 Star2 Stars3 Stars4 Stars5 Stars
Loading ... Loading ...

It’s pretty obvious to anyone who has gone to a sports website where they talk about College Football. There is a new rivalry. You take a look in the comments section of articles and you see all kinds of hate and bashing being shared between the two fan groups. At times it gets damn ugly. They bring in educational standards and statistics between the conferences, they pull out police reports on players the other teams once considered star players. You can even spot a your momma comment in there if you look hard enough through the 1,000’s of comments traded back and forth.

The teams in this rivalry? Ohio State and Florida; two teams who could very well be facing each other at the end of the season in a rematch and repeat of the 2007 BCS Title Game which saw Florida beat Ohio State 41-14.

Where did this rivalry get started? The media. Leading up to the big game, the media was reporting almost 100% that the Buckeyes were going to come in and absolutely slam and crush the Gators in dominating, physical, smash-mouth, manhandling, Big 10 fashion. One outlet reported that James Laurinaitis (Son of Animal, the famous pro wrestler) would “body slam” Offensive players. Florida Coach Urban Myer spun this web of personal hate and idea of the Buckeyes having an “I’m better than you” attitude to the Gator players, and everyone ate it up — especially the fans.

As the game went on, it was clear the Gators came out to brawl, and the Buckeyes were outright owned. However, the bad taste in the Gator fans mouths over all of the media hype and buildup to the game remained, which resulted in Gator fans raiding message boards where Buckeye fans would be.

Now, it is common place for a Gator fan to raid a comments section, posting site or online community dedicated towards Ohio State, continuing this issue. However, there is still more to this rivalry, which extends it past just Florida and Ohio State.

Due to Ohio State losing to LSU in the 2008 BCS Title Game, and OSU’s 2nd consecutive loss to an SEC team for the title, and being combined with the fact that Ohio State has been the class of the Big 10 for several years now, many conferences — especially the SEC — feel that the Big 10 is overrated. This has caused a conference-v.s.-conference rivalry between the SEC and the Big 10.

The SEC has really boomed in the past several years, while traditional conferences such as the Big 10 have seen less and less superstar players with true, legit speed and focus more of powerhouse football and overwhelming size and strength.

Part of the reason the SEC has been largely improved in recent years is credited to its ability to lure fast players. A good example in the SEC is a team that in my personal opinion has given up way too much size for speed; South Carolina. When watching last years game between Florida and South Carolina, and laughing as the announcers talked about how much bigger Tim Tebow was compared to every player on the South Carolina roster, you can’t help but admit that it they’ve given up too much size for speed. Bad coaching, bad recruiting, and you just can’t win with speed.

Other SEC teams have found a perfect mix of strength and speed, with teams like Florida, LSU, Auburn, and Georgia having said builds. You look at them and know they can run the ball at you with speed, and knock you on your ass with their power. Something the Big 10 is starting to regain with players such as Ohio States RB Chris “Beanie” Wells who happens to be one of Tim Tebow’s biggest rivals for the coveted Heismen Trophy.

Things look good this year for another Big 10 v.s. SEC fued building season, and we very well could be looking at that rematch for the ages. I’m a Buckeye fan first, and a Gator fan second. I want this game like I did two years ago. Either way, I win and lose. But in the end, it is a damn good game and that’s what matters.
